St. John the Baptist Parish invites you to Advent Evening Prayer each Sunday evening during Advent at 7 pm in the upper church.
Evensong, or Vespers, as the evening prayer is often called, is a prayer of thanksgiving, repentance and petition. Christ is acclaimed as the "Light of the World," followed by an evening hymn and prayer of thanksgiving. The sweet smell of incense and rising smoke help us to bring all the day's troubles before the Lord. We sing psalms, listen to scripture and pray for all the needs of the world. The praise and thanksgiving for the Light, the offering of incense in quiet reflection, the unhurried prayers of intercession are the moments of evening prayer.
